First-week-of-daycare checklist

Two weeks before

• Talk about daycare simply and positively
• Read a picture book about starting daycare
• Visit the centre together, or watch the virtual tour
• Start shifting naps and meals toward the daycare routine

One week before

• Practise short separations with family or friends
• Finish enrolment paperwork
• Tell the centre about allergies, medications and routines
• Set up the centre's parent app (Lillio at Little Otters)
• Plan backup care for sick days

Pack and label

• Change of clothes (two sets for little ones)
• Indoor shoes and weather-ready outdoor gear
• Diapers, wipes and cream, if needed
• Bottles, formula or breast milk for infants
• A comfort item for nap time, if allowed
• Your centre will give you its own list; follow theirs first

The first days

• Keep goodbyes short, warm and the same every day
• Never sneak out
• Start with shorter days if you can
• Check your app updates, then try to relax
