The people your child will know by name.

Great child care comes down to the people in the room. Here's who they are and what Alberta requires of them.

Qualifications

How Alberta certifies educators.

In Alberta, staff in licensed child care programs must be provincially certified as early childhood educators within 6 months of being hired, and uncertified staff can't be left alone with children.

Level 1 Early Childhood Educator

A post-secondary course in child development, or Alberta's Early Childhood Education Orientation Course.

Level 2 Early Childhood Educator

A one-year early learning and child care certificate, or an approved equivalent.

Level 3 Early Childhood Educator

A two-year early learning and child care diploma, or an approved equivalent.

Anyone can check an educator's certification level and status on Alberta's public Early Childhood Educator Lookup Tool. Ask us on your tour about the qualifications and first aid training in your child's room.
